On October 7th the community of Killarney pulled on their boots, dusted off their cowboy hats, holstered their Nerf pistols and headed on down to the Killarney Ag Building for some Wild West fun at the Roots of Early Learning Fun-Raiser!

"Our Fundraiser was an amazingly fun time. Everything went off without a hitch and was a blast," shares Executive Director, Susan Nafziger. "We had a great turn out and made a good amount of money from all the supporters!"

"We were so thrilled to see so many people there from the community with no affiliation to the centre but just community members who know the importance of what we do and who wanted to have some fun.   We are actually still seeing the support come from that night.  People who were unable to attend and sending donations and asking how they can help."

Funds raised will go towards operating costs and necessities at both locations.  However, as we are now in the throes of winter weather, the need for warm clothing and extras are essential for the children in their program.

"As we move into the winter months, we continue to need everyday items like laundry soap, dish soap, BOXES OF TISSUES, toilet paper, bleach, jugs of cleaner, basic food items like baking ingredients, and crackers.  We LOVE art around here and need paper, ribbon, markers, paint, buttons, cards, envelopes, wrapping paper, holiday decorations...think of us or your local daycare when cleaning we use it all!!!" she says.

"We do also need items for the colder weather like you said toques, mittens, and neck warmers also ice melt to keep everyone safe at all our locations.  We have the facility at the school with school age children from ages 6-12 and they usually come from school with wet mittens and NO hat so we could use bigger items for them as well to get them outside enjoying the snow."

"There are a few larger Items we are in need of right now," adds Nafziger.

"Unfortunately, we had a maple bug problem in one of our sheds and they destroyed some of our items by chewing through boxes and leaving a mess behind," she explains. "We lost our Christmas trees at both locations. If anyone has one they need to replace we would love to have their old one.  We also are in need of an upright canister vacuum at our school location."

"And as always we absolutely love your toy and book donations, as we head into the holiday season families may be downsizing in anticipation of Christmas and we would gladly give those toys a home!"
