Pelly's Lake is located 1 1/2 miles south east of Holland, and Justin Reid Manager of the La Salle Redboine Conservation District says their goal is to create a backflood project that would model Lizard Lake.

Reid tells us a backflood system drowns out the undesirable grasses and allows better grasses to come in. He notes the Pelly's Lake project would also benefit surrounding landowners by reducing spring flooding. Currently the lake is filled with cattails and other undesirable species of plants, and Reid share they are working with landowners to create a solution. He explains how the Lizard Lake Project works.

Reid says they have a management board in place made up of landowners involved, members of the Conservation District, and a Councillor from the RM of Victoria. The next step in the plan is for landowners to file for caveats on their titles so the project will be permanent.

The estimated cost of the Pelly's Lake project has fluctuated but Reid notes it's going to be close to $500,000.  He points out ideally they would like to start construction this fall, but with studies and dealing with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, he anticipates construction to begin next year.
