The community of Killarney-Turtle Mountain came together in a BIG way Saturday evening at the Indoor Fishing Derby Bobbin' for Brian fundraising event at the Shamrock Centre.
Debbie and Ken McKay attended an indoor fishing event in Saskatchewan and thought it would be a great fund-raiser for Killarney's new fire hall.
Fire Chief, Troy Cuvellier, agreed and WOW! What a turn out!
I was amazed at the crowd of over 500 people, families and friends and fire department members!
Debbie McKay told me her son, Brian, loved fishing and had plans of becoming a firefighter before a tragic car accident claimed his life 15 years ago.
Brian's fellow school mates (from across the provinces) stepped up to the plate to help with the event, in decorating and in which ever way they could. Local sponsors put together fantastic prize packages.
It was the first time an indoor fishing derby as been tried in Killarney and it made such a SPLASH many had asked this to be an annual event!
My hubby and I had an awesome time and I was thrilled to see how our community pulls together to support our fire department. Over $20,000 was raised by the end of the evening! A huge applause to the McKay family and everyone who helped put together a fabulous community event!
