The Turnbull Trophy champions are also ANAVET Cup champions.

Bradley Schoonbaert scored the winning goal 6:35 into the third period to lift the Steinbach Pistons past the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champion Nipawin Hawks 2-1 Monday night.

"I tried to find open space. I got the puck in the slot and I made sure it counted," said the Brandon product.

The Pistons took the best-of-seven Manitoba/Saskatchewan series four games to two.

"The boys earned it," said Steinbach head coach Paul Dyck. "We've been grinding it out here the past week-and-a-half. What a tough series it was. Give Nipawin a ton of credit. They came to play everyday. They took away our time and space and finished every check. It was a war out there. That's the toughest series we played all year."

Brady Tatro also scored for the Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions.

Matthew Thiessen made 23 saves in game six.

"The team in front of me was great tonight," said Thiessen. "We came together and in a close game like this we did what we needed to do and now we're ANAVET Cup champs.

The Pistons advance to the RBC Cup National Junior "A" Hockey Championship which begins May 12th in Chilliwack.
