A few National Baseball Championships are underway this weekend.

The Manitoba Junior Baseball League All-Stars are one team competing at the National Junior "AAA" Baseball Championships in Regina.

The team is comprised of top players from all eight MJBL teams including the Brandon Marlins.

Altona Bisons skipper, Dan Giesbrecht will manage the club along with Gerry Falk and Terry Burgess.  He shared his expectations for the championship.

"I would love to get into the medal round," said Giesbrecht.  "That would be a big plus for us if we could get there.  It hasn't happened too often and it would be great to be there. In the medal round anything can happen."

Giesbrecht noted with all the rain this summer and re-scheduled season games, the team has had difficulty finding time to get together and practice.

Meanwhile, Oildome will compete at the National Midget "AAA" Baseball Championship in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Oildome won the provincial final against Winnipeg South 4-3.

Manager, Shawn Corey explained what it will take to carry their success over to the National level.

"Well we are going to have to do what got us there. We got there with good pitching, good defense and some timely hitting.  That is going to have to come together too in Sherbrooke.  We can't be giving teams extra outs and we have kept our walks to a minimum.  Our team philosophy has always been to make the other team earn their runs. As long as we can do that I think we should do well and as long as the guys can keep hitting the ball and adjusting to better pitching."

Both championships run August 18th to 22nd
