The Assiniboine Community College Cougars soccer teams were back in action this past weekend, playing away both Saturday and Sunday, while the women's volleyball team continued their pre-season on the road, with play in Devil’s Lake, ND.

Saturday saw both soccer teams take on the Brandon University Bobcats at the Brandon University Healthy Living Field for the Prowler Cup.  The women had a challenging match against the Bobcats, with the Bobcats being up 5-0 at half and winning the game 8-0.  The men’s game had a very similar story with the Bobcats up 5-0 at half and winning the game 8-1.  Diego Gutierrez put up the lonely goal for the Cougars.

The soccer teams travelled to Winnipeg Sunday to take on the Red River Rebels with both teams playing at 12 noon at the Norm Konowalchuk Field.  The women's team had another tough match-up with Rebels winning 8-0, while the men had a close match with the Rebels winning 4-3.  Hillman Williams, Alex Alvarado, and Ricardo Macias put up the three goals for the Cougars.

The women's volleyball team played in the Sportscenter Sleep-Inn Slamfest tournament Saturday and Sunday in Devil’s Lake, ND.  Their first game was another match-up against the Dakota College Bottineau Ladyjacks and saw the Cougars defeat the Ladyjacks again, 25-13, 12-25, 25-21, 25-13.  Skyla Vanmackelbergh led the team with 9 kills, while Erica Scott had 3 aces and 6 kills, and Bryanna Sullivan led the team with 6 blocks.

The Cougars second round-robin match-up was against Williston State College.  They offered some tougher competition to the Cougars, with the Cougars losing 3 straight sets, 18-25, 13-25, 23-25.

Round-robin play then saw the Cougars play Lake Region State College, again losing in 3 sets, 18-25, 33-35, 22-25.  Skyla Vanmackelbergh again led the team with 11 kills, while Jordan Paddock had a close second with 10 kills.

The final match-up in the round-robin was against Dawson Community College.  The Cougars lost 18-25, 18-25, 21-25.  Captain Erica Scott led the team with 8 kills, while libero Brittany Bachmier had 12 digs for the team.

This weekend sees the Cougars soccer teams back in Winnipeg, playing the St. Boniface Rouges Saturday, October 21 and the Providence Pilots out in Otterburne Sunday, October 22.  The women play at 1 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, and the men follow at 3:15 p.m. The women's volleyball team also heads to Otterburne to play in the Providence University College tournament Saturday and Sunday.  This will be the first time they play teams from the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference that they will face in regular season play.
