Jay Beagle scored with 30 seconds left in the third period to lift the Washington Capitals past the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 Tuesday night at MTS Centre.

Karl Alzner and Marcus Johansson also scored for the Caps.

Mark Scheifele cut Washington's lead to 2-1 as he notched his fifth goal of the season 13 minutes into the third period.

Adam Lowry then tied the game at 2-2 as he beat Braden Holtby with 2:25 remaining in regulation.

Holtby made 43 saves on the night.

Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck faced 27 shots.

"We played real good against a real good team," said Lowry. "Our belief in this group, coming back from two goals [down] against a team like that, it just shows that we can compete with anyone, I think. We’re real disappointed in the result, obviously. That is a tough faceoff to lose, and have your guy go by you. We’ll look back and just try to get back on the right track in Washington."

The Jets and Capitals will meet again Thursday night, this time in Washington.
