CurlManitoba Executive Director Craig Baker has announced that the 2017 Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto will be hosted by the Charleswood Curling Club in Winnipeg.

“We are pleased to have received Charleswood’s letter of intent indicating they are committed to hosting the Manitoba women’s curling championship in 2017,” Baker said. “There are many details to work out as we finalize the hosting agreement but the first big step has been taken.”

Speaking on behalf of the Charleswood Curling Club, President Jim McRae said the club is excited by the opportunity to host the best women’s teams in the province.

“The last Manitoba Scotties in Winnipeg was in 2002. We think it is more than time to bring the event back to Winnipeg and we’re sure Winnipeg curling fans will be as excited as we are by the chance to watch these amazing female athletes so close to home.”

The 2002 Scotties was hosted by the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club and played in the St. James Civic Centre.

The 2017 event, hosted by Charleswood, will be played in the Eric Coy Arena, home of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League’s Charleswood Hawks.

The 2016 edition of the championship will be played in Beausejour’s SunGro Centre, January 20-24.
