Thomas Omwenga of Kenya and Heather Magill of Grand Forks are the 37th Manitoba Marathon champions.

Omwenga, who won the Marathon in 2012, finished the 26.2 mile Winnipeg route in a time of 2:34:17.

That was two minutes and 27 seconds faster than runner-up Bradley Keefe of Winnipeg.

“I'm happy with the time,” said the 35-year-old who does his marathon training in Hamilton. “The most important thing is to achieve your goal and the goal is to finish your race. My first goal was to finish the race. I didn't want to come all the way from Hamilton and not finish. I would be disappointed but I finished the race and I won. That was my goal and I'm very happy about it.”

Magill, who was competing in her first Manitoba Marathon, won in a time of 2:54:24.

The 34-year-old finished 10 minutes ahead of Reesa Simmonds of Winnipeg.

“It was amazing – it was awesome,” said Magill who is originally from Calgary but now lives in the United States. “The weather was perfect. The course was really nice. I've never run this one before. There was a cool breeze in the sun but there was enough shade to make it nice.”

Abduselam Yussuf and Darolyn Walker of Winnipeg had the fastest times in the Half Marathon.

Yussuf clocked in at 1:05:28 while Walker was 1:23:29.

Boissevain's Levi Nadlersmith finished the Half Marathon in 10th place with a time of 1:19:11.
