The Deloraine Royals reign as Provincial senior “A” hockey champions came to an end Saturday night at MTS Iceplex in Winnipeg.

Gimli goaltender Matt McIntosh stopped 31 shots as the Wolves beat the Tiger Hills Hockey League champions 3-1 in the provincial semifinals.

“It was that type of day,” said Royals coach Mike Vanrobaeys. “Their goalie played well but we just didn't get a bounce tonight. We didn't work hard enough and they really outworked us. They played well.”

Brent Wold had a pair of goals for the Manitoba Senior Hockey League champions.

Randy Tesluck also scored for Gimli.

Tanner Waldvogel had the lone goal for the Royals who trailed 1-0 after the first period and 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Deloraine goaltender Cody Mathewson faced 22 shots.

The Wolves will face the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champion Morden Redskins in the provincial final Sunday (3 p.m.) at MTS Iceplex.

The Redskins scored five third period goals and defeated the Beausejour Beavers 7-4 in the other semifinal.
