The Killarney Shamrocks are one win away from repeating as Manitoba Cup champions.

Ryan Howatt scored three times and Aubrey Chapman had three assists as the Shamrocks defeated the Carberry Plainsmen 4-0 Saturday night at MTS Iceplex in a rematch of the Tiger Hills Hockey League final.

“We knew they were going to come back hungry to try and beat us tonight,” said Killarney goaltender Brian Archibald who stopped 26 shots in recording the shutout. Archibald also blanked the Plainsmen in game three of the THHL final which was the series clincher. “We were a little slow in the first period. We started to get better as the game went on. We have a lot of character and it showed tonight.”

Reid Gow also scored for the Shamrocks who will face the North West Senior Hockey League champion Norway House North Stars Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the final of the Provincial Senior “A” Hockey Championship.

“It would be pretty cool for sure,” answered Archibald when asked what a second provincial championship title would mean to the hockey team. “We're obviously going to enjoy this tonight and then get ready to go tomorrow. That being said, it would be awesome, but we have to take care of ourselves first and then we'll get at it.”

The North Stars edged the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champion Notre Dame Hawks 4-3 in a shootout in the other semifinal.
