On November 8, 1941, in the Winnipeg Evening Tribune, the headlines read that Air Cadet Movement was born in Winnipeg.  Now, 75 years later over 350 Air Cadets are expected to parade together through the streets of Winnipeg in celebration of the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Program.

The Air Cadet Freedom of the City Parade and Ceremony will take place at 11:00 on Saturday morning at Winnipeg City Hall and will be followed by the Canadian Flags and Banners Ceremony at 3:00 pm at the Manitoba Legislature grounds.

Second Lieutenant Betty Froese is a Public Affairs Representative for the Regional Cadet Support Unit, North West. She says they are expecting over 300 Air Cadets to participate in this weekend’s events.

2Lt Froese adds that the Manitoba Royal Canadian Air Cadet Program began in 1941 in the city of Winnipeg with #6  Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron.

She says Air Cadet training provides a dynamic program in numerous areas, including Survival skills, Marksmanship, Sports, and Music by way of band instruction.  The Air Cadet program is well known for their Drill and Ceremonial and especially, flight training.
