An upcoming Assiniboine Community College fundraising event will feature Monty Shivak from Raven Industries Canada as its keynote speaker.

The Ag Partnership Breakfast will raise funds for agriculture-based scholarships and bursaries and takes place during Manitoba AgDays on Wednesday, January 18, at the Great Western Roadhouse (Keystone Centre) from 7 to 9 a.m.

Shivak will explore the theme “dream big”, citing his own experiences from different parts of the agriculture sector as an inventor and partner with innovative companies like Raven Industries.
Born and raised in Stockholm, Sask., Shivak has been a farmer for 30 years. In 2004, he founded Montgomery Industries when he developed an automatic boom height control system for sprayers called the Autoboom. In 2005, he partnered with Raven Industries to introduce the product worldwide. Raven Industries Canada was established and managed by Monty. In 2012, he moved into the product development division where he remains today.

“Dream big… you never know what’s possible until you put your mind to it and try,” says Shivak. “Just when you think it can’t get any better, it does.” Ever the forward thinker and explorer, Monty will also look into the crystal ball of what’s coming next in the industry.

“ACC has been known as Manitoba’s ag college for years, so it makes sense to add this event to our AgDays activities and share what’s new with the college’s ag programs with our partners,” says Rick Gray, chair of Agriculture and Environment programs at the college. “We’re excited to host and connect with our partners, alumni, and other AgDays attendees.”

Since its inception, Assiniboine has graduated thousands of students from agriculture-related programs including Agribusiness, Land and Water Management, GIS, Horticultural Production, Sustainable Food Systems and our Ag Equipment Technician apprenticeship program. “Our agricultural alumni are just part of the reason why 94 per cent of our students find employment within nine months of graduation,” added Gray.
Tickets are still available for the Ag Partnership Breakfast by contacting the college’s Foundation directly at 204.725.8739 or foundation@assiniboine.net.
