Ralph Groening is the new President for Association of Manitoba Municipalities.

The Morris Reeve was elected to a two year term Tuesday afternoon at the annual AMM convention in Winnipeg.

Groening took 60 per cent (274) of the votes, while challenger Doug Dobrowolski received 40 per cent (179) of the votes.

Groening has been an AMM Board member since 2005, serving as Vice-President since 2012. He replaces Chris Goertzen, who had served as AMM President since 2015. Goertzen served as Steinbach Mayor until October 24, 2018.

"We need to address some of the funding challenges," says Groening. "We need to address infrastructure challenges, I think that's probably the number one concern."

Groening says he understands the province of Manitoba has limited resources, so AMM needs to communicate clearly about where to find efficiencies.

Meanwhile, AMM delegates also elected Reeve Brad Saluk of the RM of Brokenhead and Reeve Kam Blight of the RM of Portage la Prairie to serve as the association's new vice-presidents.
