There’s no shortage of contractors wanting a crack at building the new fire hall in Killarney.

The request for proposals is out on the five bay fire hall and Killarney- Turtle Mountain Mayor Rick Pauls says response from contractors has been overwhelming. “I believe we have had interest from nine people who want to construct the new fire hall. We hope to award the contract at the end of April.

Fund raising for the hall, which is expected to cost more than $1 million, has been taking place over the past year.

“This amount of interest speaks to the economy in the region when you have that many contractors bidding on it. Construction across the province is probably a little bit down from where it should be. We should get some really competitive bids in.”

Pauls says four local contractors are bidding on the project. Work on the new fire hall being built at the corner of South Railway and Broadway is expected to be completed in October of this year.
