2015 library ribbon cut

The ribbon was cut on the new Boissevain-Morton Library on Friday afternoon.

The library actually opened a few months ago after moving down the street from its long time location beside the civic centre.

Boissevain-Morton Mayor Ed Anderson is pleased the project is completed. “This group has been working on the project since 2002 and it's nice to finally have the work completed.”

Anderson stressed the need to have a good library as a service for residents in and around Boissevain.

It has been a long road for board members with the Boissevain-Morton Library board. Despite a number of delays on the project board Chair Brenda Nixon says the members knew there was a need for a newer and larger library.

“The existing building was showing its age and there were air quality issues so we knew the need to get into another building.”

Nixon also said the community has a growing younger population and it's important the library have the ability to meet their needs.

As for the cost of the project Nixon says it will be around $850,000. “The good news is thanks to great community support we virtually have the entire project paid off.”
