Assiniboine Community College in Brandon is planning a day of activities in Boissevain on April 13 as part of its ACC Day series.

“We thought Boissevain would be a terrific community to host our next ACC Day,” said Lisa Huston, ACC Alumni Relations Officer. “For us, it’s an opportunity to reconnect with alumni, talk to employers who hire our graduates and learn more about the community many of our students come from.”

The day begins with a come-and-go reception at Sawmill Tea & Coffee Co. from 9 to 11 a.m. The community is welcome to stop in for complimentary coffee and conversation. ACC President Mark Frison will be in attendance, discussing everything from the direction of the college’s programming and labour market demand to the development of the North Hill Campus in Brandon.

ACC’s Centre of Continuing Studies will host a free ‘lunch and learn’ on the topic Dealing with Difficult People, starting at 11:30 a.m. The 90-minute workshop is designed for those working in careers where they may encounter frustrated or upset customers on occasion.
While there’s no cost to participants, pre-registration for the lunch and learn is required before Friday, April 8. Those interested can visit assiniboine.net/events for details on the workshop and how to register.

Boissevain Collegiate and Killarney Secondary School students will also be a part of the action as college instructors and students from a number of ACC’s programs will be showcasing hands-on learning through bellringer sessions. Students will spend eight minutes at each program booth and get a taste of what they can expect should they choose to pursue it after high school.

“The bellringer sessions are a fun, fast-paced way for students to explore college programs that they may already have an interest in or perhaps have never thought about,” said Erin Lambert, ACC’s Manager of Recruitment and Career Services. “They can ask instructors specific questions about their programs and job opportunities after graduation. They also get to talk directly with current ACC students about their experiences in a post-secondary environment.”

Over the past three years, the college has hosted ACC Day events in Virden, Dauphin, Neepawa and Portage la Prairie.
