The Boissevain United Church Thrift Store, Snazzy Seconds, is asking the public to postpone donations until they open their doors to the public again.

Thrift Store Member, Wanda Cameron, says tightened COVID restrictions have forced them to close their doors to the public in the middle of May, until further notice.

“With the increase in restrictions with Public Health it really only allowed us to have one person in the store at one time, and we all know that when you go to a thrift shop it’s the fun of the search and so we thought with the restrictions this strict we would just close the store,” shares Cameron.

“We’re hoping for June to see an improvement but we’re just not sure where we’re at, so as of right now our store is closed and because we’re not moving any of our merchandise we cannot really take donations because we have no place to store it.”

Cameron adds this is very disappointing to their volunteer staff.

“We still have to pay rent for our space but we have no proceeds coming in,” she explains, “and it is disappointing.  Our workers enjoy working and the public enjoys coming.  We’re one of the few thrift shops around so we do draw donations from Killarney, Deloraine area and people who donate come in and love our store.  So, ya it’s sad, we quite enjoy being open to the public.”

Cameron says there are typically 25-30 volunteers that work with Snazzy Seconds, with all proceeds going to the St. Paul’s United Church in Boissevain.  She adds once restrictions allow for approximately 4 people to enter the store at one time again, they will consider opening to the public.
