Every Friday at noon, an organization from the community hosts the lunch in the park at the Farmer’s Market in Boissevain, located at the Romance of the Railway Park.

This past week, the Brandon chapter of the Manitoba Youth Job Centre served the noon meal to a good crowd of local folks, and even out-of-towners, including the Communities in Bloom judges who were visiting Boissevain all of Friday.  (See picture in following photo gallery of Boissevain Mayor Ed Anderson with judges Larry Hall from Buena Vista, SK and Marylaine de Chantal from Sainte-Angele-de-Monnoir, Quebec.)

Students with the Manitoba Youth Job Centre in Boissevain have been kept busy this summer starting with the Canada Day activities, as well as being hired out by the town for odd jobs.

Manager, Kylie Thomas, says she has scheduled the youth in this summer’s program to a number of events.  “On Canada Day we had a float in the parade, we had kids working at the Kid’s Carnival at the fairgrounds, kind of like bouncy castle security.  We’ve done window washing and painting for Canada Day.  And also, we do job orders like where the town hired us to do curb painting.”

“I want to do a pizza sale,” says Thomas, “and possibly a breakfast drive in town before my office closes for the summer.”

Thomas says her goal is to have each student scheduled to at least two events in the summer, and to make approximately $100 each.

To hire a student, contact Kylie Thomas at the Manitoba Youth Job Centre located at the Wild life Museum in Boissevain, or call 204-305-0295.  You can also email Kylie at boissevainmyjc@gov.mb.ca
