Brandon-Souris MP Larry Maguire is disagreeing with a report released Wednesday by the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO).

After re-crunching the numbers, the PBO says the federal conservatives will run a $1 billion deficit in its current fiscal year.

The Conservatives had predicted a $1.4 billion surplus in its April budget.

Maguire said the government did include room in the budget to account for weakness in the global economy.

“Well certainly we're still on track to balance the budget in 2015 – that was built into the budget last spring. We knew that there would be some downturns. I noticed as well that in April and May here the government has posted a $3.9 billion surplus.”

Maguire notes that heading into the election, both the Liberals and NDP have made promises for billions of dollars in spending which would lead to an unbalanced budget.
