The Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone will have to shoulder increased costs to keep the Gladwest Rec Commission operating.
Mayor David Single says the province recently sent word to the municipality that it was making minor funding cuts to Gladwest. Single called it a "downloading" of expenses onto the municipality by the province.
"What it will mean is that the municipality will have to pay more of the costs if we want to keep it going," Single explains. "And I would suggest that probably we will keep the Rec Commission going. So it will take more funding from the municipality."
Single adds Gladwest provides a valuable service to many communities in Westlake-Gladstone.
"They help out all our communities in applying for grants, and letting them know about grants," Single says. "And provide programming for communities, and in Gladstone the Rec director actually has quite a bit to do with the running of the community hall."
Single notes the costs that will be picked up by the municipality aren't major, and are mostly tied to training.
