Five hundred troops at CFB Shilo are on stand-by to help fight wildfires in Saskatchewan.

Shilo's Public Affairs Officer Lori Truscott says the soldiers would potentially be on the front lines to help fight the fires.

She notes that some of the troops already have firefighting experience.

The Shilo soldiers would be assisting 500 soldiers already on the scene from Edmonton.

If called, the troops would be able move out in about 24-hours.
