Construction of a new fire hall in Killarney is going to have a ripple affect with the community’s civic centre.
Work is expected to start in April or May on the new five bay fire hall at the corner of South Railway and Broadway. Once that $1 million project is completed it will pave the way for work to get underway at the civic centre.
“We’re probably going to put the civic centre upgrade as part of our budget plan for this year to do the town hall and office right after the fire hall. There is the potential for the civic centre project to start in 2019 but it wouldn't be completed until the winter of 2020.”
There will be some changes at the civic centre once the fire hall space is vacated.
“The plan right now is to ove the main offices down to ground level into the fire hall area. That means no steps and the municipal offices would be more accessible. The existing office spaced is going to be changed into supplemental offices as well as revamping the council chambers making those larger so we can better accommodate delegations.”
Pauls added it was too early to say what the civic centre upgrade will cost.
