Darlingford residents will take the time tomorrow to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. The 94th annual Memorial Service will get underway at 11 a.m. Glenn Rassmussen has been organizing the event for over thirty years, he says the inaugural service took place July 5th, 1921. It was founded by local farmer and politician Ferris Bovin who lost three sons in war. "His idea was to have a memorial park located where the kids would go past it everyday when they go to school." When asked why it's important to continue to remember those who died in war, Rassmussen explained that the great lifestyle and freedoms we enjoy each day is because of those sacrifices made by those before us.

Sunday's service will begin at 11 a.m. and in fact, the local church in town will not be holding its regular service and is encouraging parishioners to attend the memorial. Rassmussen adds they even get the children involved. "There's two crosses set up and the children set a flower on for each name that's called out for members that lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars." There will also be a guest speaker. Della Morley is a Silver Start mother who lost her son in 2009 while he served in Afghanistan.

The Darlingford Museum will host a lunch following the service. Cost is by donation.
