Planning continues for a major expansion of the cemetery in Brandon.

The city wants to enhance and protect drainage patterns on the expansion property.

Erik Lees is with Lees and Associates the landscape architects handling designing the project.

"The cemetary is going to almost double in size in the coming years," stated Lees.  "Lands to the east have been acquired so the planning process is underway now.  One of the central features of the new cemetary expansion lands will be a large water detention facility in order to mitigate future flooding."

Lees says an open house this past week was productive.  Council is expected to approve a final plan this fall.  Lees says it is too early to say what the project will cost.
