It's been a whirlwind experience for the family of Stanley Cup champion Eric Fehr.

Eric's brother Justin explains while he's watched his brother's career since the beginning, the Stanley Cup series was especially exciting, "it was very different than a regular series... it was more nerve-wracking than I thought it would be," he says. "At the start of the year we would've never thought we would be in this situation, so it was a great surprise."

Fehr made the trek out to Pittsburgh for game 5, and also had the chance to meet Ron MacLean and Don Cherry after running into them in the elevator at the Consol Energy Centre.

"We just mentioned we were the Fehrs," he says, adding they spent a few minutes chatting and took the opportunity to take a picture.

"It was very nice, it was a dream come true, I've always wanted to meet them," Fehr says. "It was very much like I expected, Ron would lead the conversation and Don would add his couple cents."

While the Penguins would not go on to seal the deal in game 5, he notes the community has been overwhelming supportive.

"Everyone around us is happy for my family and myself for having this opportunity," he says. "I've always felt that the community has been very positive towards Eric, even when he wasn't having his playoff success, even when he had down years they've always been behind him," he says.

After the championship win was secured on Sunday, Fehr says he tried predicting who would pass Eric the Cup. While he guessed Matt Cullen, he was excited to see Phil Kessel hand Eric the Stanley Cup, "they're buddies so that was pretty awesome, it was surreal."

A teacher in Winnipeg, Fehr says it was great to see how excited his students were to celebrate with him on Monday.
