If the sky is clear Wednesday night, a local skywatcher says you could be in for quite a treat.

Ken McAllister of Steinbach says the Taurid Meteor Shower has been visible in the night sky for about the last week.

McAllister explains meteors are remnants of comets that have exploded. He says the Taurid Meteor Shower is much different from the popular Perseid Meteor Shower, which lights up the sky in August. While the Perseid can produce as many as 60 meteors per hour at its peak, the Taurid might have 10 at its peak.

"But what's unique about the Taurid meteors is that they're slower and it produces more fireballs," says McAllister. "So you may not see as many but the ones you do see may be more spectacular."

McAllister says the Taurid Meteor Shower is visible from about November 5-12. Because of the new moon Wednesday night, McAllister says that might be the best day to watch, if the sky is clear. The best time to watch is generally between 5am and 6am in the eastern sky.
