The long-time running Gladstone Chamber of Commerce looks like it'll be shutting its doors soon.

"Ken Kinley came from the Chamber of Commerce," explains David Single, Municipality of Westlake-Gladstone Mayor. "They had a meeting in Gladstone, I believe it was November 15th, and they're looking for a new executive. At this point they haven't found any. And because of that the Chamber is going to fold unless somebody steps forward. But they've certainly had their opportunity already, and nobody has."

Single says the chamber took care of the Happy Rock attraction, and Kinley asked council if they'd take over its maintenance. He notes one individual offered his services to be somewhat of a liaison and keep the council updated on anything that might have to be done to the famous roadside attraction. He notes the Municipality has been a member of the Chamber, and he was personally appointed to their committee, so he was very aware of the situation already.

He notes the Chamber did its best to recruit others, sending out letters and displaying posters, but nobody responded. Single says he wouldn't hazard a guess as to how long the Chamber's been in operation.

Single adds the Chamber's still doing a moonlight madness event as well as a Santa Claus appearance, but this is the last year.
