The fishing season on Lake Manitoba's into its final couple of weeks, and so far, it's been a good one. That's from Allan Gaudry, who's the South Basin Chair of the Lake Manitoba Commercial Fishermen's Association.

"Lots of pickerel," he says, "And prices are great, so the fishing has been a good winter. We're hoping to wrap up here in the next two weeks, and call it a season, and (we're) optimistic for next year."

Gaudry also sees the open market as a factor.

"The open market has really boosted up fish prices to where they should have been," he says, "The pickerel is our highest value, and we have plenty of pickerel in our lake this winter. The competition coming into the province has been the reason (for) the fish prices we've been getting, and we hope that continues."
