Yesterday, the federal government underwent a cabinet shuffle. As a part of the shuffle, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau changed the Minister of Indigenous Services. Jane Philpott was previously the minister but, is now the President of the Treasury as well as the Minister of Digital Government. Seamus O'Regan is now the Minister of Indigenous Services; he was previously the Minister of Veterans Affairs.

Arlen Dumas is the Grand Chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs(AMC); he insists Philpott will be greatly missed. Dumas believes Philpott will bring keen insights as to how the funding/financial aspects to First Nations are. He adds it was great to work with her. Dumas explains she was approachable, accommodating, and wasn't shy to participate and celebrate in the communities she visited.

With regards to the new Minister, Dumas is confident the AMC will be able to build on the successes, initiatives, and projects started before the cabinet shuffle. Dumas adds many of those in office who worked alongside Philpott will remain there to help educate O'Regan on the backgrounds, corporate knowledge, and the history of specific files. He stresses he and all of AMC look forward to working with O'Regan. Dumas outlines an occasion during the 2016 federal election where O'Regan knocked on well over 1000 doors and it showed. He notes, if O'Regan brings forward the same attitude as he did then, they'll be able to move forward and build on the relationships previously cultivated in Manitoba.
