A unique fund raising event took place in Brandon this past weekend.

Uturn Ministry with Youth for Christ held its 3rd Annual Sleep on the Street Fundraising and Awareness Campaign.

“It is a serious way to show people to problems and challenges facing homeless youth in our community” said Uturn's Director Shaun Funk.

SOS participants raised pledges for YFC’s Uturn program and then spent a night on the streets of Brandon with no money or cell phone.

The group managed to bring in $4,000 and that will do lots to help our programs and services.”

The event’s goal is to give participants a homeless experience and includes challenges for the participants to take part in along with designated spots throughout the city. The event brings awareness to the experience of homeless young people in our community and region and funds raised support Uturn as part of the solution.

"I think the most moving part of the event was when we did an assessment with the participants and they expressed a feeling of guilt that young people have to live like that" said Funk.
