Heavy rain, up to 75 millimeters around Belmont, was reported in many parts of Western Manitoba on Thursday evening.
Environment Canada has confirmed a tornado did touch down in the Waskada area.
A spokesperson with Manitoba Hydro says as many as 17,000 customers were without power due to the storms. Around Killarney 1,900 customers were without power. It could be Friday afternoon before crews are able to get everyone back on line with power.
For several hours storm systems passed through the region droppin up to a couple inches of rain and hail. Minto was one of the hardest hit areas picking up 49 millimeters of rain, just under two inches. Hartney reported a similar amount of rainfall. That system also produced hail in the Minto region with damage reported to homes, gardens and crops.
Around 7:00 pm there was a report of softball sized hail at Ninette. There were reports of quarter sized hail in Hartney and Minto and toonie sized hail around Baldur.
