Samaritan House Ministries worked together with the Assiniboine Theatre Company a few weeks ago in a new fund-raising venture, featuring  Brandon Mayor Rick Chrest and his wife Karen in the production of “Love Letters”, a presentation that speaks to mental health issues, and its effect on families and relationships.

The production was part of the Hungry Hearts Gala, held earlier in November at the Victoria Inn. The evening featured entertainment by a local Jazz Trio, a silent art auction with special work donated by local artists, a 3-course meal provided by the Victoria Inn, as well as the performance, “Love Letters”, with Brandon’s Mayor and wife leading the way.  Approximately 200 people attended raising thousands of dollars for Samaritan House.

Thea Dennis is the Executive Director for Samaritan House Ministries in Brandon.  She says the Hungry Hearts Gala was a wonderful coming together of community to support the Food Bank, and to raise awareness of mental health.

Dennis adds the Gala was a great success, raising just over $8,000 and is the first of many, as it will be an annual event in Brandon.
