Conservative MP Larry Maguire has won his seat in Brandon-Souris.
However, the win was bittersweet as the Liberals won a majority government.
Maguire says he couldn't have done it without some help.
"We are so proud too of the hundreds of volunteers that we've had in this campaign," he said. "People that have come door knocking that I've never seen before, people that have come in and worked in our office at our front desk. All of you, I'm so proud of the effort that you put in."
Maguire will now be an opposition MP and he says it is something he can dive right into to start working for residents of southwestern Manitoba.
"I will in opposition during my time as an MLA in the Manitoba Legislature and I know what it takes to work with people to get results and that's what I plan to do for Brandon-Souris in working with the new Liberal government."
Conservative Leader Stephen Harper announced that he will be stepping down as party leader following the defeat.
