This year marks the 39th year for the Annual Westman Juried Art Show and the Travelling Art Gallery.

Marg Stewart is a member of the Arts West Council. She said this year's theme was humour, and last year's theme was heritage.

"We usually average 85 to 100 paintings at the Juried show," said Stewart.

The Juried Art Show has been presenting the artwork of amateur and emerging artists residing in the Westman area since 1979.

This year it was held April 21, and from that show the top 20 art pieces travel throughout Westman for a year. Ten pieces are then chosen to compete on a provincial level.

"The jurors come in on Friday, critiquing all the works... and then we find out on Saturday which ones they have chosen," Stewart explained.

The collection travels to about twenty communities in western Manitoba.

"They usually have them in their libraries or town hall, or civic centre, and they stay on an average of a week and a half to two weeks in each community," said Stewart.

This year the categories were expanded to include collages and fibre art.

Stewart notes they're always trying to attract new people to get involved in the art show.
