RCMP confirm that two men are dead following an early morning crash on Highway 75, just south of the Winnipeg perimeter. At approximately 7:40 a-m, St. Pierre RCMP responded to the two vehicle crash at Provincial Road 247, east of La Salle where a semi-trailer and a semi dump truck had collided.

Early investigation shows the dump truck was northbound on Highway 75, attempting to turn west onto the 247 when it collided with a southbound semi. The driver of the dump truck, an 84 year old male from Steinbach was ejected from the vehicle and died on scene. The male driver of the semi, a 58 year old from East St. Paul, also died on scene.

Alcohol is not considered a factor, but neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.

RCMP continue to investigate and southbound Highway 75 remains closed at that spot.

A serious accident near Winnipeg has closed the southbound lane of Highway 75 this morning and emergency crews are rerouting traffic.

Barry Reimer of Killarney was heading into the city when he came upon the scene about 10 kilometres south of the Perimeter.

"A semi was headed southbound and t-boned a gravel truck that went across the road, took the motor right out of the truck and caused the southbound semi to rollover into the ditch."

He adds the situation doesn't look good.

"It looks really serious, the blankets are out so something you don't want to see."

Discoverwestman.com is waiting for RCMP to release further details of the collision.
