Children at Killarney School will be able to enjoy a new playground structure come September.

The Killarney School Parent Advisory Council has been raising funds to build a new structure to add to the school’s playground equipment.

Through local fundraising efforts, as well as grants and donations, they were able to raise the first $100,000.

Most recently the Advisory Council received donations from Farm Credit Canada ($1,000), Lewis & Jones and Wawanesa Insurance ($2,500), and the Insurance Women’s Association of Western Manitoba ($500).

The structure itself is to cost $85,500 with a rubberized ground surface costing an additional $40,000 for a total of $125,500.

The structure is to include a ramp for wheelchair access, multiple slides, a bridge and climbing options.

The Parent Advisory Council is still collecting donations and grant money, and hoping businesses and individuals consider sponsoring additions to the playground building project.

Construction is expected to begin within the next few weeks, and to be complete by September.
