The Manitoba Wildlife Federation is canvassing across the province to meet with MWF members, landowners and municipalities to support the ban on spotlighting, or night hunting, something that is legal for aboriginal hunters but illegal for all other hunters.

The MWF has also opened a new webpage called NightWatch for anyone with stories or concerns regarding the practice of spotlighting. Other issues surrounding this practice of night hunting is also outlined on the new webpage.

Mayor for the Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain, Rick Pauls, says the council is in full support of the petition, basing their decision on fairness to all hunters, and safety to all hunters, landowners and wildlife.

The Association of Manitoba Municipalities, Manitoba Beef Producers and Manitoba Natural Resource Officers’ Association have joined the MWF in the call to ban spotlighting through passing resolutions in support. Nineteen individual Rural Municipalities have currently passed anti-spotlighting resolutions.
