The Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris hopes to use his role on the federal immigration committee to improve the situation with migrants coming in from the United States.

Larry Maguire is an opposition member who sits on the immigration committee. “I’m on that committee with our critic Michelle Rempel and I’m the western representative on that committee.”

Maguire says there is a huge problem with asylum seekers entering Canada. “Those seeking asylum have been coming across our border here in Manitoba but the problem is much bigger in Quebec. Regardless of what area of the country it is it puts a great deal of financial burden on the provinces because they end up funding the settling of these illegal immigrants as they cross our border.”

The problem isn’t people are coming to Canada but Maguire adds it is the way they are entering the country. “ Let me be very clear we have many immigrants coming into our region and they follow the rules. We have church groups and other organizations and individuals that work to bring in people legitimately and find them jobs and help them settle into communities.”

Maguire says the other people are jumping the queue and the government is doing nothing about it.
