MacGregor Gets Ag Days Grant - PortageOnline.com

You'll soon see some new signage welcoming you to the town of MacGregor.

Heartland Recreation Commission Director Karla Gurke says they've received the Local Community Infrastructure Upgrades Improvement grant worth $2,000 from Manitoba Ag Days.

"What we've applied for it to do is to replace the signs around MacGregor and in MacGregor. As you're coming from the east or the west, you'll see older golfing signs for our golf course. So we're going to replace them with metal, reflective 'Welcome to MacGregor' signs, and the sign by hole #9 by the golf course," says Gurke.

Gurke says the total cost for the project is over $7,000. She says the grant was matchable, so funds also came from other sources.

"We've gotten $2,000 from the municipality because they had to match it. Then we got $1,000 from Hometown Green Manitoba, and then our local service groups in town have put in the rest of the cash to redo all three of these signs," Gurke says.

Gurke notes there's a new design and possible slogan in the works with the help of a community member.

"I've got Tirzah from Baker Colony right now, we're working back and forth to come up with a design. We're playing on the words of 'Heart of Manitoba' to welcome everybody, so we're working on the design right now," says Gurke.

They've applied for the infrastructure grant in the past, and Gurke says it feels amazing to finally receive it this year.
