Money will soon start flowing to community projects in Minto.

The funds are coming through the Minto and Area Trust. That trust is administered by a group of local residents who sit down throughout the year and consider funding applications.

Thanks to former resident Lloyd Campbell and his wife Elsie, who left funds through the Vancouver Foundation, Minto will get about $55,000 every year in perpetuity.

“We have had quite a few ideas and we recently approved $3,090 for Minto School to use for its swimming program and field day” said trust committee board member Gwen Wooley.

“Every week between now and the end of the year student head to Brandon for swimming lessons and this grant will help reduce the cost for parents to send their kids to the swimming program.”

Wooley expects they will announce more grants by the end of the year. “We know the local Recreation Board plans to do some upgrades at the rink and ball diamond as well.”

The money from the Vancouver Foundation comes to Minto in November of each year.
