MP Larry Maguire in House of Commons

Larry Maguire, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris gave a Members Statement in the House of Commons on Thursday to congratulate Lois Fowler, Maureen Bonar, Cathy Gauthier, Allyson Stewart, and Coach Brian Fowler on winning the 2015 Senior Women’s Curling Championship last month in Sochi, Russia.

“It was a great honour to congratulate Lois and her team in the House of Commons.  I couldn’t be more proud of them on their recent championship,” said Maguire. “They are wonderful ambassadors of the sport and they are all amazing role models for the next generation of curlers.”

The Member Statement that Maguire gave in the House of Commons read:

Mr. Speaker, even though spring is in full bloom, it gives me great pleasure to rise in the House to congratulate Canada’s 2015 Senior Women’s Curling team on their recent world championship.
Last month, Lois Fowler’s rink of third, Maureen Bonar; second, Cathy Gauthier; lead, Allyson Stewart; and coach, Brian Fowler, proudly adorned the maple leaf while winning the Women’s World Curling Championship in Sochi, Russia.
Not only was it their first world championship, but it was the first world curling title ever won by a Brandon based team.
With this world championship they have once again made Westman proud. And as I’ve always said: Manitoba is the heartbeat of curling in Canada.
Lois, Maureen, Cathy, Allyson and coach, Brian have a distinguished curling record and have inspired countless others to take up the sport. Not only are they great curlers, they are class acts who are very much respected in the curling community.
On behalf of all Members of the House of Commons, I extend hearty congratulations and all the best in their future endeavors.
