The Municipality of Norfolk Treherne's looking for some support from the province to help with water/sewer upgrades around the region.

"Manitoba Water Services Board (MWSB) has indicated they have $17-M for the 2018/19 fiscal year to invest in water and sewer infrastructure in the province," says Reeve Craig Spencer. "The municipality is looking for funding and support to complete some necessary water and sewer projects we have planned. Council has identified a few priorities and will submit them to the MWSB for their consideration."

The proposed upgrades go as follows:

Rathwell - $25,000 - Two new distribution pumps and a new drive to operate the pumps.
Treherne - $65,000 - New submersible distribution pumps, new drives, and replacement of softener controls.
Lavenham and Rathwell - $30,000 - Generators to ensure a continuous supply of water to the residence when the power goes out.
Spencer adds the generators are there for security supply, and they haven't had too many large problems.

"Last year when that wind sheer went through the area of the Assiniboine River and Lavenham lost power and were out of water for a couple of days. Residents were concerned about that. We were talking about generators and we just couldn't find the right one, but now we're in a position to do something about it and we've asked MWSB to support us in this. My understanding is they do this quite widely through the province, especially for machines like that."

He'd like to get the generators started this year, but they do have a plan for 2018-19.
