Assiniboine Community College in Brandon is expecting another year of strong enrollment.

Summer is winding down and Assiniboine Community College is busy preparing to greet more than 3,900 students over the coming year.

“Fall is always an exciting time of year for us as so many are beginning or returning to their studies,” said Dr. Deanna Rexe, vice-president academic at Assiniboine. “Classrooms, shops and labs will be humming with energy.”

This academic year, the college expects to welcome close to 2,700 new and returning students in on-campus certificate, diploma and apprenticeship programs, and a further 1,200 studying by distance or through community-based programs. Thousands more will be enrolled in Continuing Studies courses and training programs.

The fall term begins Tuesday, September 5.

“We continue to see wait lists in more than 15 programs, particularly those in the disciplines of trades and health,” said Rexe. “Our programs are responsive to the changing needs of employers and labour market demand, so it’s no surprise that so many see college as a sound investment towards their future career potential.”

The college’s latest graduate satisfaction and employment survey showed that 94 per cent of recent graduates have jobs, making on average just over $44,000 a year.

Assiniboine has five campuses across the province: three in Brandon, one in Dauphin and one in Winnipeg.
