Killarney-Turtle Mountain Mayor Rick Pauls isn’t holding back on slamming the finance minister over comments he made in releasing the province’s new budget.
The quote that doesn’t sit well with Rick Pauls has to do with taxation and municipalities in Manitoba.
Here’s the minister’s quote in the government press release:
“While others are taking more money off kitchen tables all over the province – with higher municipal property taxes, higher Hydro rates and higher federal deficits – our government is lowering the PST, leaving that money where it belongs,” said Fielding.
Pauls says to accuse municipalities of taking money off kitchen tables simply isn’t true. “I’m extremely, extremely, extremely disappointed in Minister Fielding’s comments. It’s a reckless comment and I think he owes every municipality in the province an apology.”
Pauls says it undermines another level of government and if they really think municipalities are taking money off kitchen tables then the province should stop the downloading.
As for the budget, Rick Pauls said it contained very little for rural areas and the lowering of the PST was simply a political move to try and win the next election.
