An indoor fishing derby will take place in Killarney on Saturday, February 16th and more than 400 tickets have been purchased for the event.
The derby is a fund raising evening with money raised going to the new fire hall being built in Killarney later this year.
While the fishing derby is a fund raising project for the fire hall it’s also being held in memory of McKay’s son Brian who passed away 15 years ago. “He was on the fire department and also loved fishing so this weekend combines those two loves in support of the fire department that over the years has been so supportive of our family.”
There are lots of prizes including a jersey from the Winnipeg Jets and that will be sold using a silent auction.
“We’ve already sold 400 tickets and that was our goal so I’m thrilled with response from the community. This event is for people of all ages and is open to children and adults and tickets will be available at the door.”
McKay says they should clear at least $8,000 for the new fire hall. Doors open Saturday at 5:30pm. The fire department will also be serving a meal between 6:00 and 8:00pm and those tickets can be purchased at the fishing derby.
