Stranded motorists in Virden were treated to an impromptu concert by none other than Tom Jackson.

Tuesday's winter storm forced the closure of several highways in Manitoba including the Trans Canada through Virden. “We had all 100 hotel rooms filled and about 60 people in the Tundra Oil and Gas Place arena for the night” said Mayor Jeff McConnell.

He pointed out the town is used to hosting stranded motorists but they usually have enough hotel rooms to handle them. That wasn't the case this time.

“Tom Jackson was on his way to perform in Brandon Tuesday night as part of his Huron Carole tour when he became stranded in Virden. So he decided to do a concert for the other stranded people.”

Mayor Jeff McConnell says it's up to mother nature, M-I-T and the RCMP when roads will reopen and people can be on their way. He doesn't expect anything to happen before Wednesday morning.
