A police officer was dragged by a vehuicle driven by a motorist trying to flee RCMP.

It happened on Wednesday around 7:00 in the morning.

Carberry RCMP were called to a single motor vehicle collision, two km east of Carberry on Hwy 1 in the RM of North Cypress-Langford.
Upon arrival, the officer found the female driver of the vehicle to be in possession of a minor quantity of drugs and drug paraphernalia, and subsequently arrested her.

The officer towed the vehicle back to the detachment and searched it for further drug evidence. Finding none, it was determined there was not enough evidence to support a charge for drug possession.
It was found, however, that the driver did not have a valid driver's license and she was to be released with a traffic ticket when her ride arrived.

The driver was allowed to charge her cell phone in the car and call a friend from Brandon to pick her up. The driver was very cooperative with officers and an RCMP officer remained with her near the vehicle. The officer and the driver guided the friend to the detachment using her cell phone.

Through additional checks on paperwork located in the car, RCMP discovered the driver had produced a false identity.
When the driver realized this, she put the vehicle in motion and attempted to flee.
In the attempt to flee, an officer was dragged by the vehicle as he tried to disengage the ignition. The driver drove into several snowbanks before the vehicle came to a stop.

A second officer assisted, and the female assaulted both police officers who were eventually able to subdue her.  Both officers received minor injuries.

Once returned to custody, she was transported to Brandon Correctional Institute. The female received minor injuries from the incident.
