The Independent Investigation Unit is investigating the circumstances that led to the injury of a 49-year-old man during his arrest by Brandon Police Service.

On January 5, the IIU was notified by Brandon Police Service that they had received a complaint from an individual alleging an assault during his arrest on December 19, 2018.  The IIU requested further information from Brandon Police Service in order to determine the injuries sustained.  The IIU was subsequently advised on January 21 the male reported that he sustained, among other injuries, a fractured rib during the incident.  

As a fractured rib is defined as a serious injury under the IIU regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
