It appears the Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games will be close to breaking even.

Co-chair Trish Enns says they hope to have all the numbers in by the end of the month but adds that things look pretty good.

"I know we were close to a balanced budget. We did go a little over on certain things like the track. The track going over budget really put a dent into our budget. Our finance committee is working very diligently. We're returning things that we can return and we're trying to get credit for used equipment and used items that we had to purchase."

Enns says, heading into the games, they were projecting a $20,000 deficit on a total budget of just under $1 million.  But she still hopes it can be erased. The Games' committee hopes to wind up its affairs by the end of this month.

Meanwhile, Enns says the games have left behind a huge legacy in Steinbach and area.

"I know one of the biggest components that saw an increase in participation was athletics, track and field. That was the whole hope in building the track, that there would be a legacy of programs left behind. Eastman did amazingly well in the competition. They got the majority of the medals. We certainly saw an increase in participants. It's what we hoped for and, hopefully, they'll take their athletic careers further."
